Teaching New York iPhone Boot Camp

December 11th, 2008

I’ll be busy this weekend teaching iPhone development at the New York iPhone Bootcamp. (Meet-up group link) Saturday is an Intro class and is targeted at folks new to Mac programming in general and also new to iPhone SDK coding. Class details and outline can be found here. Sunday is an Advanced class where we really start to do some coding. This is intended to be a follow-up to the Intro class, so it might be better seen as a “writing real apps that do real things” class. Class details and outline can be found here. We are working on a 3 day workshop in January which will introduce more advanced material and we are assessing interest in classes on more specialized topics like Core Animation, OpenGL, networking and other topics beyond the scope of the initial courses.

Sign up for the classes here! There is still room for a few more students!

There is an article in Ars Technica about the class. Ars Technica posted a less than ideal article back before I taught the first class, but they seem to have changed their mind after hearing how well the first class went. Unfortunately the follow-up didn’t get as prominent a posting location as the original article. Ah well - as they say, all press is good press, right?

(Amusingly, when first posted, the article also mentioned the iPhone ad network company I co-founded and where I am currently VP of Engineering. The company’s marketing person had the un-approved reference pulled but not before Google indexed the original. So it goes.)

CodeFab WebObjects/iPhone Chili Cook-Off at Alex Cone’s House

May 28th, 2008

On Saturday June 28th, Alex Cone will host the second annual CodeFab WebObjects Chili Cook-Off! This event is designed to bring together Apple geeks who develop using WebObjects (and this year we add iPhone developers too!) with connoisseurs of spicy food for a no-holds-barred, knock-down, drag-out chili cook-off that will smoke the surface of your tongues right off and do more psychic damage than the famed Guatemalan Insanity Pepper.

Alex will throw a batch or two to get things rolling - Chicken Mole? Chili Verde? - plus a batch of his famous Habenero Cornbread. An asbestos taste-bud mandatory rematch with last year’s winner Bojan will be sure to entertain all.

Email Alex Cone if you want to be a judge. To compete just bring your best batch of chili (a batch for about 20 people is a good start). There is a big stove, so you can get time to reheat and tune your spices the day of the cook-off.

Donations of beer, wine, sodas and anything else to cool the tongue definitely appreciated.

The party starts at 7:00 and cooks needing some time can come earlier.

WebObjects Developer Conference Coming Up!

May 21st, 2008

The WebObjects fire started last year at Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference continues to rage unabated. Get all the latest information and developer tips and tricks at the 2008 WOrld Wide Web Objects Developer Conference in San Francisco June 7th and 8th.

CodeFab’s Alex Cone and Bill Hatch will be speaking on Sunday, giving the low-down on the latest AJAX support in WebObjects 5.4. The session is (*gasp!*) at 9:00 am, so don’t party to hearty on Saturday night. The full schedule is here.

Apple’s WWDC is now sold out. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn directly from the industry experts and the developers of the WebObjects tools. Online pre-registration is available only through BoxOffice Tickets (open until May 22th). You can also call BoxOffice Tickets at 1 800-494-8497.

In addition to Alex And Bill, look for fellow CodeFabbers Bill Sandner, Chuck Swiger and Justin Laird. There is an official WebObjects Tommy’s tequila run SUNDAY NIGHT! Mark your calendars!
